Not nearly daily thoughts that occur to me as I read, peruse, design, teach workshops and courses about using technology in an educational or informational setting. Check it out to see what I mean.

Confessions of an Aca/Fan: The Official Weblog of Henry Jenkins: A Second Look at Second Life

Confessions of an Aca/Fan: The Official Weblog of Henry Jenkins: A Second Look at Second Life: "Second Life interests me as a particular model of participatory culture."

I have recently gotten re-interested in Second Life due to a number of posts on the Hidden-Tech listserv. When I first heard about Second Life last year during Ped2, (thanks Amy) I was curious about teaching possibilities "in world", but I got little further than attiring my avatar, aka Elena Laffer in Second Life (SL) and doing a bit of teleporting. I never quite got the hang of being in world, as the learning curve is pretty steep and I found that so many other things called for my time. But here is SL again, knocking on my door.

I tried to log in last week, only to find that I needed to download a new release of the sw, and also needed to get a new password. And that's where I got stuck. I've requested a couple of times to get a new email as they suggest on the website (www.secondlife.com) but have never gotten a response. Today I called the 800 number, and instead of getting a real person, my only choice was to leave a message with my SL name, my real life name, phone number, email address, and statement of why I was calling. They promised a return call. We'll see. And in the meantime, I still cannot get back into SL :-(
